Day 3 of DO SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY CHALLENGE--October 21, 2012
Today is Sunday which means Church for me :)As usual, I was running late to Church, so as soon as I got dressed, I dashed out. A couple blocks later, the wind decided it wanted to be Regina George and yanked my dress up, exposing me to two guys and a girl. Luckily, I wore shorts underneath like I always do when wearing a dress/skirt. Unfortunately, they happened to be spandex shorts which kinda bunched up and make you look like you're wearing a really big underpants. Mortified, I clutched the hem of my dress, and decided against going back to change since I was running late. I scurried to my metro stops, avoiding people and strategically walking behind cars and trash cans. But luck was not on my side today.
A block from the metro, there was some kind of festival. Lots of people were staring at a make-shift stage where three girls were dancing. Guess where my path led to? RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STAGE! I could trace my steps back and walk all the away around to the metro. But again, time was an issue. So holding onto my dress for dear life, and praying that all eyes were on the dancing girls, I sped past the stage and was eventually able to safely board the train.
I had a great time at church. It was youth Sunday, so they lead us in worship. And I thanked God because He taught me something else. As everyone else was worshiping and praising the Lord,I couldn't do it, thinking of all my sins. I just felt guilty. But then God spoke to me. Who was I to deny Him the praise that He deserves? Just because I sinned doesn't mean His Greatness has changed. My sins doesn't change the fact that God is LOVE who sent his son to redeem all of us. And so, I praised His name. Yes, I still have fights to win, but I rejoice in the fact that God loves me no matter what.
When church ends, I usually get rides back to my dorm.Today, however,I had no such luck. So, from Wheaton metro station, I caught the red line train to Shady grove. On the rare days that I take the metro home, I usually transferred to the blue/orange line to get off at the stop right by my school. But today, for my challenge, I decided to remain on the red line, get off at the stop nearest to my school and walk the rest of the way. You would think this morning wind fiasco would have deterred me but for the sake of the blog, I went ahead with it.
First thought stepping out of the metro: "yay! no wind." And there was no wind the rest of the way. I tried to take pictures of my walk but my $10 camera was all like "naaaaa...I only work under natural sunlight". My walk was refreshing but pretty boring except for two incidents.
Incident #1: Location: Right on the intersection of 17th and H street. I was admiring a beautiful building and took out my camera to take a picture when I heard "briiing briinng". I turned around to find a capital bike coming right at me! I had no time to move and stood there transfixed. Luckily, the cute Chinese guy on the bike had better reflexes than mine and steered out of the way. As he passed me, our eyes met and it felt like we were in slo-mo. It was such a Korean drama moment! But I guess I am not a poor but plucky girl living with a horrible step-family (and secretly and unknowingly dying of cancer) and I guess he wasn't a chaebol because the guy on the bike just nodded, said "sorry" and sped away.
Incident #2: On F and 19th street, the traffic light turned red and a car slowed down.Inside the car was an Indian/Pakistani man and his car was LOUDLY playing a very lively Indian song. Our eyes met and we nodded at each other, grinning. If this were a bollywood movie, at this point he would have gotten out of the car and we both would have walk over to where a group of Freshmen stood huddling and all of would have broke into a synchronized dance. Alas, when I surreptitiously glanced around, nobody seemed about to bust a move. And I was too shy to dance alone, so I added an extra spring to my steps along with a very subtle shake of the butt. To the girl walking behind me: I am sorry if I looked like I had hemorrhoid....
The walk was uneventful....well actually...I did almost have a korean drama moment and a bollywood moment....kekekeke...So I think I will continue to take this route in the future...more exercise for me ;)....peace out :P
