Day 1- Laundry Drama

Day 1 of Do Something New Everyday: October 19th, 2012

So what was the first new thing I did to spice up my life? I ironed my clothes. What an exciting adventure. Pwahahahaha. I told you I was boring. (as an aside...the verb iron as in removing wrinkles is pronounce like "i-ern" not "i-ron"...english pronunciation is so fickle..)

Now, I hate doing laundry. Don't get me wrong, I do like to do and enjoy doing some chores like washing dishes and cleaning the bathrooms. But washing and folding laundry? Eww, no. And as for ironing....ew ew ew ewwwwwwwwww. >.< So, my sisters always had laundry duties while I happily scrub the toilets. Mother told me I will be a big disappointment to my husband...that is if the guy were dumb enough to marry a girl who couldn't iron his suit jacket.

My scumbag brain couldn't come up with anything cool new thing to do...in fact it could't come up with anything. So while I racked my brain, I decided to do my laundry cuz I was running out of clothes to wear. Walking into the closet, I tripped on the cord of my roommate's iron. And BAM! LIGHTBULD MOMENT!

I ironed EVERYTHING, including my socks. So...Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with before and after pictures of my ironing adventure. Forgive the quality. It's $10 polaroid a520 camera I got from Ebay. And ignore the date on the photo...they were taken today..

AFTER

As you can see, my ironing skill isn't that great yet...And you're probably wondering where the "drama" is that I mentioned in the post title? Well, readers, I live in a dorm and share washers and dryers with about 60 other girls.

When I went to wash my clothes, all the washers were currently in their cycle except for one. The girl had neglected to come on time to take them out and put them in the dryer. I waited a few minutes but time is money...so I reluctantly took her clothes out and put them in her hamper and moved it by the dryer. While I was loading my clothes, she came in. I told her what I did and apologized. She didn't say anything but I could tell she was upset as she loaded her clothes in the dryer. 50 minutes later, I went to check on my clothes. All the dryers were in cycle EXCEPT for the dryer that she used. Again, her cycle was done but she had neglected to collect her clothes in time. I waited 10 minutes to see if she would show up soon. She didn't. So I unloaded her clothes into her hamper nicely and loaded my own clothes in the dryer instead.

Well...when I went 50 minutes later again to collect my laundry, she came in as I was unloading my clothes from the dryer she had used. She looked pissed. She let out a big sigh and yanked her hamper away. She took a step to go out but then changed her mind and turned around and snapped "Are you sure you took everything out?" I was caught off guard...surprised at her tone and implication that I might be stealing her clothes. I only meekly nodded and quietly continued to unload my clothes. Then she RANTED

"You know it's very rude to take out people clothes...How would you like it if someone did that to your clothes??????" I tried to tell her that I understood what she was saying and that I always come on time to deal with my clothes so I won't get in the way of someone else using the appliances. But I only managed to say "well" before she cut me off again with her rant: " I mean I am not accusing you. And I'd understand if my clothes were in there for like 3 hours...but they were only in there for like 1 hour"...she ranted more...and I could NOT get a single word in( I am not assertive enough). Then she turned and marched out of the room, leaving me to fume silently as I finished unloading my clothes.

EXCUSEEEEEE ME MISS...IF YOU DIDN'T WANT YOUR CLOTHES TOUCHED...COME COLLECT THEM ON TIME LIKE I DID....YOU EXPECT US TO HOLD OFF ON OUR OWN CHORE FOR AN HOUR JUST TO CONVENIENCE YOU.....SORRY BUT

If I had been more assertive and talked back, I would have gotten in a catfight. That would have been a much more interesting first NEW THING to do...lolz..peace out :)
